New Customer Care Center Means More Jobs for Rio Rancho

RIO RANCHO, August 12, 2003 – Intersections Inc., a Virginia-based company that provides credit monitoring and identity theft protection services to more than two million consumers nationwide, is locating a new customer care center in Rio Rancho. The company will operate in New Mexico as Intersections Inc. of Rio Rancho.

“Rio Rancho offered just what we were looking for,” said Intersections' COO Ken Schwarz, “not only in terms of economic development assistance, but its high caliber workforce and hospitable atmosphere.”

“The State of New Mexico's commitment to business and its workers is abundantly clear and so is its enthusiasm in welcoming companies like ours into its communities. We are pleased with the reception we've received and look forward to a mutually beneficial relationship.”

“Governor Bill Richardson and the Rio Rancho Economic Development Corporation really went the extra mile in assisting us in our search for a home for our new call center,” added Schwarz.

The new 28,000 square foot customer care facility expects to employ 110 people in its first six months, including Credit Education Specialists who will take incoming calls from subscribers to Intersections' credit monitoring product, Identity Guard® CreditProtect®, as well as a number of private label products and services the company provides to the credit card customers of major financial institutions.

“This is a great fit for Rio Rancho,” says New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson. “There was some tough competition to get Intersections' here, but I believe our cooperative spirit and our state-based in-plant training program put us over the top as the clear choice”.

The state awarded Intersections Inc. $675,000 from their in-plant training program. In-plant training allows companies like Intersections to take advantage of matching state funds to train New Mexico workers for production, an initiative supported by Governor Bill Richardson.

Until the new facility's anticipated January 2004 opening, the Rio Rancho customer care center staff will be housed in a secure temporary facility on the campus of New Mexico Highlands University in Rio Rancho that opened for business on August 4 and will start accepting calls on August 18.

Intersections Inc. has seen considerable growth over the last several years as the crime of identity theft becomes more prevalent and consumers seek ways to protect their privacy and better manage their personal credit. It's estimated that seven million people fell victim to identity theft in the past year alone, according to a new Gartner, Inc. study.
